Baby Update

I'm trying hard to not turn my blog into baby city and I guess in doing so realized that I haven't really talked about baby much at all. Well, I guess there was that whole big moving fiasco last week that was a little bit of a distraction. ;)
I had another doctor's appointment on Tuesday. It went very well. I always kind of dread them. I mean, I definitely want to go and make sure baby is healthy and stuff but I've been struggling a lot with the whole weight issue. I know it's hard for some people to understand as I get a lot of comments but I've never really gained a lot of weight in my life before. All of a sudden, boom, my body is changing and I'm having a hard time. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that there is a little one growing inside. I love that that is the reason why my belly is growing and I want it to grow because it means baby will be healthy. I am in no way starving myself or mad that my body is growing, it's just weird. I'm not used to having a belly. My butt and legs are starting to get a little flab and I don't like that so much. Before I started getting sick after getting pregnant, I ran a lot. I did a lot of exercises. I've always been super active and worked hard at keeping my body in shape. It's always been a priority of mine. But since the whole first trimester nausea/fatigue, I haven't been running as much. I'm still going 3 times a week and then walking at least 2 times a week but I can't go as far or fast as I used to because quite frankly, it's getting hard and I get so tired and out of breath when I do it. But I'm still keeping active and doing exercises and getting out there. I have to keep reminding myself of that.
Anyway, back to the doctor's appointment. I was kind of dreading hearing how much weight I'd gained. I was shocked when I stepped on the scale! I'm still not quick back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I lost some weight in the first trimester because I was sick and I've gained some of it back but not quite all of it. It was such good news for me. However, I am a bit confused at the disconnect between the number on the scale and the way my pants don't fit any more.
My doctor also did some measuring (never knew how that worked) and said my measurements were perfect and yes, as a matter of fact, I am bragging! LOL! I've never thought of my measurements as perfect before. Hehehe! That totally cracked me up. She also mentioned that I must be really active. That was another comment that made my day. I am active and she noticed.
And I got to hear the baby's heartbeat again. I love that sound. The doctor said it sounded great and was beating at the right rate.
I booked my ultrasound for June 20th ( I'll be 19 1/2 weeks then) so be prepared for a post on that soon. I can't wait for that. It's a little bit later than usual but I had a few dr's appointments cancelled so by the time I got my referral, that was the next available time. But that just means the baby will be a bit bigger then and hopefully we'll get to see more.
I'll have to take a photo this weekend of my belly and share it here. I'm starting to embrace it and feel comfortable in my own skin. However, I do have to say, that dang, I liked my body before I got pregnant. Why in the world was I always so upset with it before?!?! The joys of being a woman...
Thanks for 'listening'. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll answer them. If you have any comments about coping with body changes, emotions, worries, please let me know that I'm not alone! ;)
Hugs!

I understand the body issues you're having! I totally am in awe that you are running 3 times a week and walking twice a week! What a great gift to give to your baby--being a healthy mom!

Also, the sound of my babies heartbeats is one of my favourite sounds in the whole world!! How wonderful to hear it!

Can't wait to see the picture of your tummy! Did you see the Tracy Turchin layout in the June CK (I think it was in the doodling section-- didn't care for the LO too much, but the pic was gorgeous! You'll have to do something like that!)

I think hearing the sound of your baby's heart beat is something you never forget! I loved that little thump, thump, thump!

I lost a bunch of weight being really sick in the first four months and when I started passing my pre-pregnancy weight it was weird too. And the first time my pants didn't fit properly because of my addes weight on my hips I wasn't a happy camper!

Are you going to find out the sex of the baby or do you want it to be a surprise? I can hardly wait to see photos of the ultrasound! You'll have to post them! Hugs!!!

aww Heather, you are just the sweetest thing! Body changes are so tough. You have a great attitude, it is all for good! And you know what?? It will all go back to what you were before. Especially if you choose to breastfeed!! Not only is it good for baby, but great for mom and getting her shape back again!! Just be prepared to be ravenously hungry!
Just make sure you listen to your body, if it's telling you it's tired, don't push... just enjoy every second, it goes by so quickly!

What do you mean you don't want your blog to be baby city? I want to hear all about it!

Glad to hear everything went well at the doctor's appts. You must be having a tough time with not being able to run like you used to. At least it's for a good cause!

I can imagine it would be really hard to have all your clothes not fitting all of a sudden. I loved the comment you made about how you loved your body pre-pregnancy and why you were always so upset with it before. Totally hit home with me. I think I need to put that up over my computer so I remember to embrace my body just the way it is.

Can't wait to see those ultrasound pics!

You look so cute, with your tummy starting to grow! It's so much perspective, isn't it? If you thought something was not so good before - just wait a while - something else will come along and you'll give your head a shake!

And the girls are right - treasure each moment because soon your pregnancy will be over! Just look at Na - only 1 month to go and you'll be an auntie!!!

Love you, Sweetie!

Don't sweat the small stuff Heather!! Your body is going to change even more- and sorry, won't be "exactly" the same ever again. But that is all part of the beauty of becoming a mother. And you get a whole new wardrobe now!! It is a great great thing!!

Heather,
Listen to me - are you listening? I gained 40 lbs with Matea - did you hear me? 40 lbs!! I am 5'3"!!
I had a big behind and bigger legs... it was not a pretty picture, I tell you.
Likely, nothing will ever be in the same place again, but you know what? It is all good. Really, I mean that. Let me know if you have a 7lb weight gain month.... I almost passed out in the office when I got weighed that day! LOL!

As much as I hated the weight gain, I realized how worth it it really was when you get to hold that beautiful little being in your arms. But the only thing better than hearing the little heartbeat, is feeling their little movements. Don't stress about it -ENJOY this time - before you know it it'll be over.

WOW to be walking and running that much is great. I think with Micah I walked - 5 km 3 mornings a week before work. I hope you can come to grips with the weight/fitness thing. It's harder to keep up with the fitness when baby is here but is totally do able just not like it used to be. There is a girl in town that does exercises where you use your baby as a weight. Maybe you can find something like that in Calgary (or do it at home).
